This wine shows a seamless entrance of black cherries, violets and white pepper. The mid palate on this year‘s Pure Magic is classic Pure Magic with complete front to back and side to side sweet/round tannin saturation. There really is no perception of mid palate transition to the finish, they both melt together into the classic peacocks tail of dark chocolate and espresso which both linger on the finish.

Black Magic Inquire

The 2022 Black Magic is showing loads of roasted meats, Christmas baking spices, black currant and anise on the initial taste and beginning of the palate. This has copious black tea and graphite notes on the mid palate, which just exudes power and richness, before it slowly tapers off to a finish that just doesn’t seem to quit for minutes on end.

This vintage is less tannic than vintages like the 1998 and the 2021 and carries notes of gun flint, blackberries, damp earth, raspberry, and slow-braised meats. It is a wine to enjoy in its youth, though it should age beautifully.

This wine shows black raspberries, red cherries, and a bit of carne asada (think Texas brisket also). Wine Maker Jeff Ames originally thought the 2022 Beckstoffer To Kalon would be showy early on, but the more he tastes it, the more he’s convinced the wine will benefit from some bottle age. “Your patience will be rewarded.”

Our Oakville Cabernet is a perfect example of why Oakville is the premiere appellation for Cabernet in the Napa Valley. This wine checks all the Cabernet boxes, with plentiful fruit, a touch of forest floor, and a hint of graphite. The fruit is a balance of red, black and blue, with blackberry, black cherry, blueberry compote and an iron/sanguine minerality. Baking spices of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg add an extra dusting of complexity. A great expression of this renowned appellation.

The 2021 Beckstoffer To Kalon BFD is intensely fresh, and more of a combination of red and black fruits than the classic To Kalons pure black fruits. The finish is long, framed by firm tannins but still with the classic peacocks tail of the To Kalon Vineyard.

The 2021 Beckstoffer To Kalon FnA aromatically is a mix of blackberries, tar, and forest floor. On the palate this wine is very supple, with purity of fruit, spice, and less obvious structure than the other To Kalon‘s of this vintage. This shows tremendous breadth on the palate, length on the finish, and of the three To Kalon‘s from this Vintage, this bottling will be the most approachable at a younger age.

Our 2021 Dr. Crane shows the incredibly distinct profile that this vineyard provides. Our 2021 Melanson has an additional level of richness and a slightly higher level of black fruits over the typical red fruit spectrum that Pritchard Hill typically provides. An amazingly rich and seamless mid to back palate that shows off its mountain terroir. This will be the longest-lived Melanson we have ever made, an homage to the majesty of Pritchard Hill. Deep, dark, and opulent.

Our H.S. Chardonnay is a blend of our best barrels from hallowed ground in Carneros. “Balance” perfectly describes the texture, acidity and length of our smallest production white wine. Incredibly aromatic for Chardonnay, with notes of lemon blossom, brioche, stone fruit and Earl Grey abound. The minerality of petrichor and gun flint compliments the fruit in harmony, with a finish that just keeps on going.

The 2022 Hyde Vineyard chardonnay has spectacular focus and tension in addition to an amazing mouthfeel and texture. As always the Hyde is extremely aromatic and lifted, likely from the older vine Wente selections influence. Notes of Meyer lemon, Asian pear, and Acacia flowers immediately grab your attention. This wine is focused, with a big presence, with the palate contributing brioche, camomile, honey and caramel.

The 2022 Beresini vineyard is possibly the richest Beresini to date and shows additional density from the warmth of the vintage as we went through harvest. The nose immediately hits you with white peach, honeydew, Earl Grey, and jasmine, followed up on the palate with bergamot, white raspberry and almond extract.
